What's with him?

I don’t read men well and sometimes can be a bit blind when things are staring me in the face. I’m 27, in college and studying economics. One of my teachers is a guy aged 35 who I’ve always got along well with. He’s funny, often cracks jokes and students enjoy his subject. A month ago I emailed him about a paper I’m writing. I finished the email with a funny remark. Usually with teachers I’m polite and fairly serious. He replied and added a humorous quip in response to mine. A week later I emailed him again asking if he had a book that I needed. He replied saying he did and ended the email with a joke. I wrote back thanking him and responded to his joke. He wrote back with another witty remark. I didn’t reply to that one. In class the next week, he laughed and joked with other students but avoided looking at me.
