Any helpful guidance regarding college?

I have a useless associates degree from a community college, i started my first semester at a local university and am taking prerequisites to get into the computer science major. i thought c++ was pretty cool but was bombarded with other school point to the point where i fell behind. now i'm behind in this course (linear database structures..? something like that) with no sign of hope thus far. i don't understand anything mostly because it's not the same curriculum. the first one focused on coding where this one is very descriptive and complex.

if i drop the course, I won't be eligible for aid next semester. if i continue on with it, I risk failing and lowering any GPA I'll accumulate. Drowning my face in books until I get it is easier said than done. I'm sure other people are in my situation but it can't lead to any good regarding my future. It's all very stressful to the point where I actually thought of dropping out and trying to make it with a minimal degree.

Any helpful guidance regarding college?
CS is a tough one to just jump into. Is the class you're taking called "Data Structures"? Unfortunately, you'll have to muscle your way through this one at some point, but it gets easier as you learn to think like a CS major.

One option you might consider is this: many universities offer a few classes that start at the midpoint of the semester, so you still might have time to add one of them. A lot of times, they'll be obscure things like Intro to Russian Literature (taught in English.) Although the course may be absolutely useless, it may help you fill an elective and will probably get you over the hump, enabling you to have enough credits to maintain your scholarship.

If all else fails, I'd recommend staying in the class and doing the best you can, but only spending a limited number of hours on it (maybe limit yourself to 20 hours per week--or whatever your schedule allows--and refuse to do any more.) If you make sure that you do well in your other classes, you'll get good grades in those. Furthermore, most teachers don't like giving grades lower than C's to students who actually show up to class and give it a good, solid try.

No matter what, getting the full B.S. is much, much, much, much more valuable than the associate's degree. Stick with that curriculum and I think it'll pay off for you nicely.
Reply:is it too late to register for another class instead of this class, so you can still have the credits to not lose your financial aid and it won't lower your GPA?

if not, find a tutor. most schools have an office for students who need tutoring so that they can help you out.

Another suggestion, go to your professor's office hours so that he or she can break down the lesson as much as possible. The reason they have office hours is to be there to help you.
