Am trying to make up for my college learning mistakes? is this bad?

ok. I graduated in Computer Science which was very tough!

I just ran out of energy in my senior year, and did not study or put effort. I got a lot of Ds that year.

however, now that I want to apply for jobs... most do ask some knowledge in things that I'm not confident in. So I've been trying to actually learn what I didn't learn while I was in college.

But I have this thing, I'm very perfectionist. And have been spending days reading books. (BUt realistically, those books are just way too big to finish them even in a year and be ready to apply for a job)

my questions are:

1) What I'm doing, is it wrong? maybe I just feel guilty for that last year and trying to make it up.

2) Maybe I only need to start working in my field, and get experience and forget about those books? Maybe they are not even useful, and I'm just afraid to face the world? and trying to hide in them?

I don't know. please help. What would you advice me?

woah! guy, clam down, take a deep breath!

do both at the same time. besides the books cant be that long read on free time and work during work time. knolege will come with expirience. ask someone like your new employer if those books are useful. even if it takes you years to finish them youll get through it but you should start a job while conquering your task.
Reply:Don't say that you're a prefectionist. You're not otherwise you wouldn't have gotten those Ds. They're going to ask you why you messed up in the last year of college. Plus it's an answer that shows your TRUE weakness--you're desperate. Focus on yourself and look at your REAL weaknesses. Procrastination? Lack of motivation? What? Employers know when you're just BSing them.

You NEED experience first and foremost. Don't keep trying to explain your past--it's happened. You've graduated. You have a degree now use it.

When employers ask about your weakness, say just that--sometimes you lose motivation. BUT because of this weakness you have slowly overcome it by focusing on the future not the past. As a result you are more goal-orientated now than ever before.

The best thing you can do right now for yourself is to get out there and get a job. Even if it's not in your field, it will get you there. Look anywhere--you need to show that you can make it in the real world. College is tough, but the real world is a slap in the face.

I have a degree in communications and here a year later I still don't have a job. Hopefully I get one tomorrow, but we'll see.
Reply:I would make a list of skills you feel confident in as of now and see if you can find a job that will allow you to use them

2.start doing consulting work

3.get a job with a small company less likely to look at your school record.

4.be the most energetic positive guy in an interview setting.

5.think of getting some certifications or taking relevant coursework online.

6. put together a functional resume
Reply:They'll look at your marks for the topics you did and the second they see someone with better marks then they'll choose them over you.
Reply:You're the only one who can answer those questions, and it sounds like you did.

It doesn't hurt to improve yourself, but don't become obsessive to the point where other areas of your life are suffering.
